April Update: Train Keeps A-Rollin'

Howdy!

I’m a little late on this post because I was in a bit of a food coma yesterday, so I hope you’ll forgive me.

To start with, I’m still struggling a little bit with consistency. It was an excellent first half of the month for WaniKani lessons (starting level 6 now!) but I have been running up against the incredible drain in motivation that comes with starting new levels. I’ve tried to set a goal for myself to complete at least 15 new lessons every day those lessons are available, which worked for some time. Unfortunately, I had several tired days towards the end of the month which saw my progress grind to a halt. I’m churning through the reviews that piled up during that time as we speak. I’m still determined! Perhaps I need to look at each day with a timeframe in mind to complete my studies. I find I feel better about completing harder tasks when I’ve actively planned to take them on.

Next up, I haven’t made any progress on Project Euler. I decided to get a couple projects up here first that might be more fun for my readers. The first of those, my Rubik’s Cube Solver, is already up! The next one is going to be a small exploration of security principles which examines issues that may arise with poor cryptosystem design. After that point, I’ll probably continue on Project Euler, and I’d like to also take on the challenges over at CryptoPals. Those challenges are meant to demonstrate that implementing simple attacks on cryptography systems does not require a math PhD. In so doing, they convey how risky data transmission is while arming people against some of the most common pitfalls in that field. Fun stuff!

Finally, I’m drawing again! My friend and I are doing a weekly livestream (you can find our channel here, we stream on Tuesdays) in addition to our annual charity stream, and I’m working on some channel art for us! It’s been a lot of fun, as I’m adopting a more cartoonish style than I’m used to. That’ll be up soon!

That’s about all for this past month. I hope to have more code to show here by the time April’s through!

Thanks for reading,
Andrew
